The main difference between LTE, EVDO and Mobile WiMax?

Now days we still didn't get the mobile wimax but other mobile technologies are developed and released already in the market such as EVDO, LTE. The big players like a Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile etc already gave the mobile broadband internet service to customers by using their PCMCIA cards, USB cpes, Cell phones via EV-DO, LTE. Even 2 CDMA operators released Ev-DO x1 in my country, i have tried them seemed quite attractive and reliable and stupid, we know that Mobile WiMax is much better than other technologies cause of Frequency Reuse, Bandwith, Throughput, Coverage, QoS, Authentication bla bla, but eventually what customer wants? who cares about these, these are just a problem of an operator side, so my question is to clarify that what is the MAIN DIFFERENCE (Technical Functions how they works ) of Ev-Do and Mobile WiMax in a real world for compare customers. As i mentioned that when i used EV-DO it has shared on 2MB bandwith with other users whose are were in an one sector with you, also web browsing and downloading are worked normal but a real time streaming and VoIP is not worked, but that mobility worked quite fine, so in my understanding they are giving phone number and transmitting data through the phone and converting it in BTS to IP and connecting to the backbone? Is there anyone who can explain how they works? Why that a real time streaming, voice is not working on IP connection, why impossible to give a public IP to the end-user CPE?

The operator can control the access and QoS of streaming and VoIP, depends of its policies. In the other hand, is not impossible to get a public IP but is not cheap.

Tulga Hi:
First of all: LTE is not at the same level of development as Wimax.
On teh other hand, the technologies have a lot in common. To the point that one Big Guy ( from Intel?) said that will not be surprised if they merge at the end.
BTW, there i sa good text from the WImax Forum describing the three technologies.

Ernesto

Hi, Ernesto,

Yes i know that LTE is little bit next version, yes everybody is talking about CONVERGENCE WiMax and other technology, heard that WiMax compatible with CDMA from one Huawei guy.

On mobile WiMAX or lets say nomadic/portable WiMAX you can have public IP to the CPE. Its not a problem and it is available in the nomadic WiMAX network deployed bt Relicane and Tata in India.

When you talk about LTE its very much in the early development stage and its standards has to be freezed.
