In Apr, 08 I wrote a comment on my page where I was quietly speaking to sprint.
It went like this. I think the big players are at a crossroads with do you build new infrastructure outside the old, or do you help drive technology to a place where devices crossover from existing service to wimax.
8 months later Sprint announces they are working on a dual mode device that will cross over from there 3G network to there XOHM wimax brief thing.
Two months later Sprint and Clear announced there inte…

I would like to wish you all the best for 2010.
Here are my top 10 predictions for the African wireless market in 2010.
1. Mobile entertainment services set to remain African carriers’ top priority to offset the continued decline of their total ARPU. In 2009, many African carriers experienced a decline of their total ARPU due to increase pricing war. I expect this trend to continue. Thus, African carriers will continue to focus on mobile data services to offset the decline of their total ARPU.…

IEEE ComSocSCV is extremely fortunate to have Clearwire reveal details of its "4G" Developer network at our Feb 10th meeting. Here are the preliminary details of what promises to be a very informative, exciting, and highly interactive panel session:
Mobile WiMAX (as provided by CLEAR, Sprint, Comcast, and Time Warner in the United States and by other carriers worldwide) and 4G represent an opportunity for a new generation of product and services that take advantage of true mobile broadband. CLE…

With the huge growth of mobile phones complementing with a revolution wireless network technologies there has been a huge change in the consumer's lifestyle and dependence on mobile phones. With the emergence of smart phones (mobile web) consumers are replacing not only their fixed lines but have started downsizing the number of personal computers in home. But they have far way to go as this demographic for this adoption is quite limited due to various factors. Fundamentally, consumers want grea…

Multimedia services and Internet applications have been the primary drivers in growth and demand of mobile broadband. It has ensured the operators to innovate and upgrade to newer technologies and architectures to offer services at lower cost but at the same time with improved user experience to the end users.
The transition to the next generation network has been already envisioned by the industry players and the move has been outlined to meet the set objectives. The higher level objectives in…

"CLEAR is in the process of rolling out 2 new advanced WiMAX modems with some features we have not seen yet from the current hardware offering. The main new feature seen in both of these devices is that they have built-in ATA capability for VOIP. This is good news because customers will not longer need to have a separate ATA device for VOIP. Should make for an easier install and users can upgrade to V…

Why is this taking so long?
Are there some reasons for this that are just complicated issues?
Or is 2.5GHz the wrong band for this to work seamlessly?
I don't have to tell you that widespread adoption of this technology depends on it.
So what is the problem?
Please help me members, with understanding what the problem is with the slow device launches.
Thanks Kobe.

For quite some time, we have been pounding the table to cite the huge access bandwidth advantage mobile WiMAX currently has over 3G networks. AT&T's 3G network has been plagued with outages and very slow downloads due to traffic from iPhones (see article below). But if those same iPhones were instead connected to a mobile WiMAX network they would likely experience much better performance (assuming the mobile WiMAX operator has done the network engineering correctly to assure consistent cover…

More and more, we are being convinced that mobile WiMAX will not be heavily used by consumers. That's because of the lack of hand held devices to access the mobile Internet. Here's the latest documentation of this trend:
Taiwan-based WiMAX operators are currently focusing their purchases of WiMAX CPE products on network cards, dongles and routers, but showing less interest in handsets, notebooks and netbooks, according to industry sources.
WiMAX operators are reluctant to purchase WiMAX-ena…

Several analysts, including those at GTM Research and Pike Research, have evaluated field area network options and seem to agree thatWiMAX ( News - Alert) should be a preferred technology solution for utilities to select to anchor their field area network as the preferred access technology. WiMAX is capable of running over both licensed and unlicensed spectrum and is arguably more secure and reliable that alternative technologies. When compared to RF mesh technologies WiMAX has significantly bet…

In the past couple of weeks I've interviewed executives at Cradle Technologies (Suhas Patil), Videonetics (Basant Khaitan) and Proxim (Robb Henshaw) regarding their companies use of broadband wireless technologies for video surveillance. I also am in the process of scheduling an interview with a SPRINT customer to learn how they're deploying video surveillance over SPRINT's 3G/4G network
