3G has significant challenges in the developing world

Please read the following articles that provide good insights on this. Overall 3G services and devices are proving too expensive in the developing countries. Also the lower speeds they offer, make bundling WiFi a must. So device vendors who have no bundled WiFi offering will suffer poor sales.

For WiMAX this the perfect opportunity to grow and provide both lower prices and higher speeds, thus making the overall user value proposition much greater. Mobile WiMAX is moving fast in many developing countries. It has started in the US, Russia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia and also getting started in India soon. Its a pity WiMAX is stalled in China. But hopefully they will see the light soon.

I hear Mexico and parts of South America are also going with WiMAX, but I don't know if those countries are leapgrogging 3G to do so. Does anyone have input on that?
