This report presents Taiwanese WiMAX CPE shipment volume and value forecast and recent quarter review of shipment volume, value, ASP, shipment ranking, and product mix. The report also provides price trends, production locations, shipment destinations, business types by ODM/OEM/OBM, and customer portfolios. The content of this report is based on primary data obtained through interviews with WiMAX CPE makers.
This report finds that despite the global economic downturn, Taiwanese WiMAX CPE makers saw demand surge in the first quarter of 2009. Nevertheless, despite slight shipment growth, the overall shipment value declined in the first quarter owing to dropping ASP. As demand visibility is expected to remain clear well into the second and third quarters, it is forecasted that the full-year shipment volume will see considerable growth in comparison with 2008.

We are planning a summary of the IEEE ComSoc July 13th talk on WiMAX in Taiwan from Head of Taiwan's WiMAX office. The article will be published at wimax.com
Here are a few tidbits:
There are 6 WiMAX operators in Taiwan- a small island nation of only 22M people. The country is divided into three zones, with 2 operators in each zone. Commercial service will launch in the 3rd or 4th quarter of 2009 for all operators.
The monthly price will be less than DSL with 2 or 3x speed + mobility and no data caps (at least initially).
The Taiwan govt has already spent $220M to stimulate the WiMAX industry in Taiwan. It is felt that increased broadband penetration will result in a corresponding increase in GDP.
Acer will be a big contributor to WiMAX in Taiwan (they are fast becoming the top PC maker worldwide!)
Lots of questions from the audience, e.g. performance and availability of Mobile WiMAX performance on high speed train that goes underneath tunnels, VoIP interoperability amongst carriers, roaming between WiMAX carriers for both Internet and voice, 3G to Mobile Wimax interworking?
Please submit your questions here as comments.
Thanks
