I think many of the larger telco companies are looking at 700Mhz for WiMAX. I am sure the forum is exploring the possibility f developing a profile fro this band over time. Buying the spectrum will be VERY expensive of course so that will eliminate the start ups. Good topic!

I remember a company called Vyyo that made equipment for this spectrum. The website is www.vyyo.com. I am not sure if they are still in the wirless business. Could be wrong.

There are a number of firms with gear in this range. SOMA Networks has radios already in the field. I get good reports from people using them. Also, Flarion has gear out there in this range. As does Airspan, Alvarion (I think) and Motorola (who if they don't have some already soon will). I am pretty sure there are several others too but can't recall them off the top of my head.

Oh, Also some of the early licenses sold (which fit smaller geographic areas more than the upcoming auction) were pretty inexpensive. However, the next upcoming phase is mostly built (by the FCC) around larger regional areas which could be quite expensive. There is some controversy amongst smaller firms hoping to see the FCC split some of that up. It would help rural communities a lot.

Zing - I also recommend you read MRT Magazine. They do a good job of monitoring the 700 MHz issues. As you probably already know, the 700 MHz band is under consideration for many public safety interoperable discussions in the U.S. Here is the weblink: http://mrtmag.com/

Thanks every one for your replies, my original intent was to see if any one on wimax360 was personally involved with manufacturing 700Mhz gear or was working for a big company that was eying the spectrum. how ever in the spirit of this thread, I saw today in Infoworld that Google is now eying 700Mhz and hopes to become a service provider.... here is the link from info world:

Hi Ali,
main advantages of 700MHz band are
* less in-building penetration loss
* less free space loss compared to 2.3GHz or 3.5GHz
* cheaper RF components

Disadvantages are
*bigger antenna dimesions
* bigger RF components

I currently work for a antenna manufactuering company called M2 Antenna Systems, Inc. that is already making 700 MHz antennas in a yagi format. They are also in the stagies of making panel antennas that will cover the 700 MHz range. You can check out the antennas at the following link.

AIrspan has been successful with 700MHz using the WipLL product and like other WiMAX manufacturers will be providing WiMAX product as well in this bandwidth.
I see the 700MHz as an answer to the 2.3 and 2.5GHz offering and AT&T may give Sprint et al a good run on subscriber sigh up. THe physics of 700MHz is great for mobility and the range also increases as the cost goes down.
